1:44 pm Saratoga (Race 2) – Trust The Numbers 2/1 (2-star play)
The daughter of Violence made the perfect start to her racing career when delivering a neck victory in a six-and-a-half-furlong maiden special weight event at Tampa Bay Downs in February last year. The 4-year-old failed to shine when last of seven over six furlongs in an allowance contest at Aqueduct in March on her only start since. Irad Ortiz’s mount has shown up well in the mornings of late and is taken to get her career back on track.
2:20 pm Saratoga (Race 3) – Roses For Debra 1/2 (3-star play)
The 4-year-old showed good form on the main track in 2022 including when winning a Presque Isle Downs stakes event in July of that year. The grey-roan filly has stepped up since joining the Christophe Clement barn, however, going unbeaten in 3 starts since switching to turf including when taking the Grade 3 Caress Stakes over this track and trip last month. That triumph came on a good track and she is expected to record a fourth consecutive victory.
4:34 pm Saratoga (Race 7) – Headland 8/5 (2-star play)
The veteran mare has won each of her last 2 starts, including by three-and-a-half-lengths in a $50,000 claiming contest over five-and-a-half-furlongs at Ellis Park in June. The Paynter mare was claimed by Linda Rice subsequently and duly completed a double when registering a four-and-a-half-length victory in an allowance optional claiming contest on a good main track here last month. Headland advertised her well-being with a 48.05 4-furlong work here recently and is selected to complete a hat-trick.
5:44 pm Saratoga (Race 9) – Nest 4/5 (3-star play)
Trained by Todd Pletcher, the filly failed to shine when finishing three-and-a-quarter-lengths fourth in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff over this distance at Keeneland in November last year. She made the perfect start to her 2023 campaign, however, when winning the Grade 2 Shuvee Stakes over this track and trip last month. Regular pilot Irad Ortiz takes the ride and Nest looks capable of defending her unbeaten record at this venue, having won all 3 previous starts here.
6:18 pm Saratoga (Race 10) – Cowichan 3/1 (2-star play)
Bred in Ireland, the daughter of Kodiac was an expensive $485,340 purchase as a yearling back in 2021. While unable to score in 5 previous starts, Wesley Ward’s filly has finished on the board on each occasion including when three-quarters-of-a-length second in a five-and-a-half-furlong maiden special weight on a good main track at Keeneland in April. The filly has delivered a number of works here in recent weeks and is selected to break her maiden at the sixth attempt.
